Hard and Fast is not the way to read

…but it sure was a great book!

Okay, so I spent some serious time reading over the past month, and I’m definitely not staying on top of writing reviews for those books. I thought I’d mention them here though, because I’ve read some fabulous books lately.

Hard and Fast by Erin McCarthy – It’s not available yet, but when it becomes available, you should run out and buy it right away. It was a wonderful book, full of all kinds of goodness. I absolutely loved Imogen and Ty, and usually the female characters are not my favorites. I’m all for the guys and I adore it when I find a female character I really love. I loved Imogen. This book is a (very, very) highly recommended read.

Kiss of Fate by Deborah Cooke – Okay, this one isn’t exactly erotic romance. But it was sexy. And exciting. And action-y. And FABULOUS. I hadn’t realized how much I might like reading about Dragon heroes until I read this book. Now I’m on the lookout for dragon stories…and buying the other books in the series I think I’m going to be addicted to.

Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole – Finally! If you’ve been around this site very much, you’ll probably realize I love, love, love the Immortals After Dark series. This is a wonderful addition to the series and Rydstrom and Sabine are now two of my favorite Immortals.

Raine by Elizabeth Amber – Oh, this one is hard to explain, but it was a great book. I loved Jordan and Raine. The only thing about the Lords of Satyr series is the darkness. I don’t like to read too many dark stories in a row, so I wouldn’t want to sit down and read all the stories at once, but I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. Definitely.

Oh, and right at this moment, I’m reading White Star, Never Been Witched, Everlasting Bad Boys, and a few others. I should really learn to focus on one book at a time…but then again, I might not enjoy reading so much if I had to follow rules about how I did it!

Goodness, there are still so many other books I’ve read lately, but many of them don’t fit the site, and I’m out of time right now!

What good books have you read lately?

What’s newly recommended

Mirror, Mirror (Spice Briefs) by Amanda McIntyre is a Recommended Read.  I love a good mystery and this short, erotic read delivers! Read my review

Would-Be Witch (Berkley Sensation) by Kimberly Frost is a Highly Recommended Read, but I have to warn you, there’s not a lot of sex in this book. I couldn’t stand not to recommend this book though—it really was that good. This book pulls off sexy without much sex and is the most fun I’ve had reading in ages!

Ravenous: The Dark Forgotten (Signet Eclipse) by Sharon Ashwood is a Highly Recommended Read. There’s plenty of sexual tension in this vampire/witch romance, but it was light on the sex. Still, it’s a sensually appealing romance that’s great reading and I couldn’t stand not to recommend it.

Pretty Poison (Luv Luv) by Yutta Narukami is a Recommended Read. This isn’t my first erotic manga, but it was the first one I’ve been able to recommend without reservation. It’s a surprisingly good “Ladies’ Comic” of the erotic romance variety. If you enjoy comic books, graphic novels or the like, you really might like this one.

Really Unusual Bad Boys (Kensington Brava) by MaryJanice Davidson is a Recommended Read. This imaginative and fun book is an anthology of 3 connected short stories! I really enjoyed the dose of humor in this one.

I’ve got reviews in the hopper for each of these books. I just have to make the time to get them done! (Not so easy when I just want to be reading…)

Have you read anything great lately?

Reading Recs: Crave & Running Wild

Over the last week or so I’ve added two new reviews to the site, and both reviewed books made it onto the recommended reading list. Running Wild and Crave: The Seduction of Snow White are both very hot, very sexy, very good books!

Review: Speak Its Name (alt romance)

Romance deals with relationships, and erotic romance is no different–only hotter, sexier and more graphically appealing to romance readers who want to explore all aspects of a developing relationship.

Review: Dark Needs at Night’s Edge

I’ve posted my review of Dark Needs at Night’s Edge by Kresley Cole. This is a wonderful addition to the Immortals After Dark series and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The book itself could stand alone, but why should it? It’s part of a series and I suggest you get them all and read them in order to get the most impact out of them.

I’ll admit, I haven’t read the story that started it all from Playing Easy to Get, but I just found out it was part of the series and I can assure you I have it on my to-be-bought-immediately list. I have five books I bought two weeks ago that I have to read first, and some ebooks on my pda to read, and frankly, I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait that long… :-)

Life is good. I hadn’t realized how badly I’ve missed reading!

Reading: A Hunger Like No Other

My Amazon package arrived yesterday with the first three books of Kresley Cole’s “The Immortals After Dark Series” for my reading pleasure. I’ve just finished A Hunger Like No Other and I have to say I recommend this one wholeheartedly.

Passion–not merely sex–fills the pages from beginning to end, mixed up with action, adventure, and plenty of the paranormal. For all fans of the erotic paranormal romance, this is one great read!

Reading: Red Sage Secrets, Volume 8, cont’d

Ah, another day, another read.

I finished Jared’s Wolf this morning, and although I liked the story, I’m not sure why (from Secrets, Volume 8 (paperback)–it’s a story of a female werewolf trying to discover why Jared Rocke, a human, is so intent on finding her family and killing her pack leader).

The truth is, I didn’t care for most of the characters, each with their very own ego problems, as unlike real people as they can get. Too much of the action is glossed over and written in such a way that I couldn’t buy into most of it. However, the sex was well-written and hot enough to satisfy.

I wouldn’t read the story again, but I wouldn’t tell someone not to read it the first time.

I think, ultimately, it comes down to me feeling like the characters were all too much alike—everyone was a wisecracker and no one took anything seriously. Although I love books that can make me laugh, I don’t like stories without a grain of seriousness in them. This story had none, despite the talk of revenge and murder, blood and gore. I want to care about the people in the story, and in this one, I couldn’t.

Reading: Red Sage Secrets, Volume 8

I’ve had this book on my bookshelves for a couple of years now and I’ve finally gotten around to reading it–or some of it. :-) There are four stories in the book, and I’ve read two: “My Champion, My Love” by Alice Gaines and “Kiss or Kill” by Liz Maverick.

My preliminary thoughts are that Kiss or Kill was the better of the two stories. I liked the rawness of the emotions and the futuristic setting.

In My Champion, My Love, I was disappointed by the sex. The premise of the story (a historical tale of a woman who has been committed because of her appetite for sex) was quite interesting, and I thought I would like it a lot more than I actually did. I picked it to read first based purely on the description. I guess this is why reading descriptions is never as good as reading excerpts!

Another comment about the sex in My Champion, My Love–it involved food. As I’ve mentioned in my view of erotic romance, I don’t have a thing for mixing food and sex. When whipped cream in one’s pubic hair becomes sexy to me, I’ll know I’ve finally flipped over the edge of my sanity. :-)

In Kiss or Kill, on the other hand, the sex was raw and passionate, and much more to my liking. This story is about a woman who wants to graduate from a military academy, but first she has to prove she is “hard” enough to make it through. How to do this? Decide if Meat (a man with robotic enhancements) should be reclassified or terminated.

Although I wasn’t fond of Meat’s name at first, I thought the author did a spectacular job of making me care for him. By the end of the story, I couldn’t think of Meat with any other name. He’s who he is and I’m perfectly happy with him as is, name and all. ;-)
