It's best all around if you start with the short story in Playing Easy to Get. Of course, I started with the first full length novel, A Hunger Like No Other, and then went back to the short one later, and that worked fine too. ;)

I so agree, LuAnn! I love Erin's voice. She's a great writer all around. I especially enjoy her short stories...because you get more of them in one book! ;-)

Oh, yes. this was actually the first full length novel by her that I've read. It's definitely worth picking up! Of course, Redneck Cinderella is worth picking up too. :-) I recently read it and thought it was great. I recommended it to just about every one of my (Southeast Tennessee) family members. :-)

I'm part of a multi-author and others giveaway on My Space called Bloody Kissmas. I believe the URL is myspace.com/bloodykissmas. All the gifts have a vampire theme to them and lots of books are being given away. I'm giving away a fanged t-shirt from The Bar, a paranormal online serial story that's been in existence for 3 years.

With a dozen writers of both sexes, all ages, and from all over the world, as well as just under a hundred readers, The Bar is an exciting story of vamps, dragons, weres, and the fae with weekly updates to the story that never ends! We're happy to be able to give away a our "Bite" shirt as part of this big December contest on My Space. We're in great company with the authors and artists represented.

Yeah, this is probably why I've had a difficult time reading any other romantic manga. The romance isn't what I'm accustomed to, nor what I enjoy. That makes it very difficult to relate to the stories and the heroines. My mother raised me on the belief that if any man tried to raise a hand to me, I was to take an iron skillet to him. Haven't had to do that, but I wouldn't hesitate. :-)

There's a certain amount of culture shock associated with reading stories written by authors from other countries (or parts of the country). I appreciate that reading a variety gives one a broader perspective, but in the end, I think we enjoy most those stories that we most relate to.

Sweetheart welcome to Japan, where boyfriends feel like they have a God-given right to abuse their girlfriends in some form or other. It's actually a milestone for a woman in a Japanese graphic romance like "Rainbow Smile" to stand up for herself and slap the good-for-nothing asstard "boyfriend" -- believe me, I've seen worse things. The manga of Japan reflect their cultural mores and backgrounds even more than their aspirations. It's just a shame that their society is so rigidly patriarchal.

I would definitely recommend reading them in order. As the series has progressed, I've noticed more and more coming up about previous character's actions and history that might throw you for a loop since Cole doesn't spend a lot of time explaining what happened in previous books.

On the other hand, I can't imagine that it would make that much of a difference since I hadn't read the first story from Playing Easy to Get before I read the first book. I realized later that I might have enjoyed the scenes with Nikolai and Myst a little more in A Hunger Like No Other if I had, but it certainly didn't ruin it for me. It just kept my focus on the main characters for that book!
