Alternate Reality
Our reality might not be the only reality out there...
Alternate reality stories are very similar to alternate history stories, only they assume some other reality exists (where events unfolded one way) in addition to our own (where our history is unchanged from our reality).
I've always had a soft spot for these kinds of stories because I'm able to suspend my disbelief when the author starts changing history.
