Erotic romance has come a long way

Allison Brennan, who writes very intense romantic suspense (not of the erotic kind, but her books are good reading if you're interested in suspense novels), has written a great article about genre blending that got me to thinking about erotic romance.

Erotic Romance is one of those genres that's a distinct blend of romance with erotica, but often with lots of other genres thrown in there. I particularly think erotic romance has a large following of science fiction, fantasy, and paranormal readers and that's my own preference too.

I first noticed a mainstream trend toward the erotic in historical romance novels, but that quickly spread to science fiction and paranormal romance as many web based book sellers put out lots of hot romance to a market who'd never had the nerve to go into a brick and mortar bookstore and ask to have “those kinds” of books ordered. I went through this myself once, back when I first started this website. At the time, I couldn't even get the Secrets books without special ordering them in the bookstore, and when a few erotic romance novels did make it onto the shelves, there were put in the “sex” aisle.

These days, I can find a great many erotic romance novels in stores as common as Wal-Mart. The blending of romance and erotica has continued to flow through the romance genre, creating a deluge of hot and spicy reading for those of us who enjoy it, and we can find books of almost any genre within erotic romance.

What's your favorite blend of erotic romance? Romance/erotica/paranormal is mine, in just that order of importance!

Reading: I was supposed to be finished by now

I'm (still) reading Megan's Mark. It's about to drive me crazy that I haven't been able to sit down with the book since last week, but that's the truth. Tonight, I plan to read in bed (while I pretend to watch the Presidential Debate). As long as they stick to the usual political rhetoric, I'll enjoy quite a bit of reading pleasure! Frankly, I've heard it all before in the other two debates (which I managed to watch without a book to keep me in a good mood).

Until then, I have site updates to do, so I'm ending this little note here.

Mercury's War by Lora Leigh is now available

I just got an email from the Penguin Group saying that Mercury's War by Lora Leigh is now available. I'm signed up to way too many newsletters, I tell you, but it has turned out for the good in this instance. I know I mentioned in my last post that I was reading Megan's Mark, the first Breed book published by Berkley Sensation. I still haven't finished it, because this weekend was so hectic, but I'm about half-way there, and it is good.

Reading: Megan's Mark

Today, courtesy my two children (with my husband's help), I received two books off my Amazon wishlist for my birthday. Today is my birthday so I'm probably not going to have a lot of time to read, but I have managed to zip along to Chapter 3 of Megan's Mark by Lora Leigh. I've been wanting the chance to read these books, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity finally!

Megan's Mark starts off with action—and I love it when an author gets right to the good stuff. :-)

I'll certainly put up a review when I'm done reading.

Blacklace Erotic Romance Author Interview at WWR

Black Lace author Portia Da Costa has an interview up on the WeWriteRomance.com website. Her books include her latest release Gothic Heat, a sexy hot romance novel of erotic proportions!

The interview is here.

She's best known as one of the original pioneers of Black Lace, and the only author from the original line up who still produces new titles for the imprint. She also writes for Spice Briefs and Total-E-bound.

One of my favorite comments in the interview come from Portia Da Costa, when she says:

My days don’t have much in the way of structure or planning. I pretty much just stumble in disorder and confusion towards the resolution of a book, hoping for the best.

It's amazing how this has worked so well for her! :-)

If you have a chance, check out the interview.

New Blaze Books and More Updates!

I've put up quite a few of the new and upcoming Harlequin Blaze romances. You can check them them out and buy or preorder them if you want.

I've updated my Lora Leigh book list. With the change over from static pages to a database, I just didn't get all the books for some authors entered and I'm working on them a bit at a time. However, now I've got a great many Lora Leigh books listed with plans to add more of Lora Leigh's books.

There are many more authors I need to get up to date on the site and if you have a preference for who you want updated first just let me know.

I'm excited to be getting the erotic romance lists all updated. :-) Here's to many more happy book updates.

More erotic romance novels will be added soon!

I'm going to be able to get quite a few more erotic romance novels added to the site before the end of the month.

The books will update the Kensington Brava, Berkley Sensation, Spice Books, Harlequin Blaze, Avon Red and Ellora's Cave lists. The Ellora's Cave book list doesn't exist yet, but it will. :-)

The biggest targets of the update are the Sensation books and the Ellora's Cave.

I hope to add Samhain to the lists too.

Are there other hot publishers of erotic romance novels out there that I should consider adding?

I go mostly by the authors I like but sometimes I miss things because I don't read as much as I used to.

I'm definitely open to suggestion. :-)

Interview with Megan Clark, author of Seduce Me

Megan Clark's interview launches a new feature to The Erotic Reader website—author interviews. I love talking with authors about their books or having authors talk to me about their books. :-) Either way works for me. That said, here's the interview with Megan Clark. Enjoy!
